Halal lunch trays in Paris: where to order for a company meeting

Halal, pork-free, alcohol-free, at no extra cost: what to ask a caterer before ordering halal lunch trays for a meeting in Paris, and the budget for 10, 20 and 50 people.

To order halal lunch trays for a company meeting in Paris, choose a caterer whose entire savoury menu is halal and pork-free, at the same price as everything else. That way you avoid the "separate" tray and the list of names to pass on. At L'Écrin Traiteur, the whole menu is halal and pork-free, with no alcohol in the recipes and at no extra cost; we do not claim a halal certification. Our six trays cost from €28.90 to €30.90 per person excl. VAT, delivered from 6:30 am.

Where can you order a halal lunch tray in Paris? Our selection

1. L'Écrin Traiteur's lunch trays

The six trays on our menu are halal and pork-free: two with roast chicken (La Romaine, La Champêtre, €29.90 excl. VAT), one with smoked salmon (La Boréale, €30.90 excl. VAT), three vegetarian (La Solaire, La Provençale, La Potagère, €28.90 excl. VAT). Each includes a starter, a main and a dessert, made the same morning. The details are on our halal corporate lunch tray page.

2. What the rules say: halal is not defined by the State

In France, the word "halal" is a religious label. The government pointed this out in an answer published in the Journal officiel on 4 December 2012: defining it is a matter for religious bodies alone. Products labelled halal undergo the same checks as any others (labelling, composition). There are therefore several private certification bodies, each with different specifications.

3. What a caterer should tell you clearly

A serious caterer answers three questions in writing: is the meat halal on all trays or only on some? Is there pork or alcohol in any recipe (sauce, dessert)? Does it claim a certification, and which one? A vague answer to any of the three is a warning sign.

Halal, pork-free, certification: what difference does it make to your order?
