Pastries for a corporate afternoon break: tartlets, choux, brownies, chocolate mousse, the best addresses in Paris
Odette for choux, Fou de Pâtisserie for chefs' creations, Chez Janou for chocolate mousse: the Paris addresses, and what L'Écrin delivers for an afternoon break for 10, 20 or 50 people.
For a corporate afternoon break, choose individual pastries that are eaten without cutlery or with a teaspoon: tartlets, choux, brownie, chocolate mousse in a pot. Allow 1 pastry per person and 1 flask of coffee or tea for 6. At L'Écrin Traiteur, the box of 6 tartlets costs €19.90 excl. VAT; a complete afternoon break comes to about €9 per person excl. VAT for 20 people, delivery included.
Our selection: the best afternoon-break pastries in Paris
1. L'Écrin Traiteur: tartlets, mousse, brownie and choux delivered to the office
Lemon meringue tartlet, praline tartlet, real chocolate mousse, gooey brownie made with French chocolate, panna cotta: our individual pastries are made by our head pastry chef and are ordered in sixes. The cream choux are by Philippe Urraca, Meilleur Ouvrier de France; they are ordered by 24, with icings and creams in a variety of flavours.
2. Odette, for cream choux
The choux house on rue Galande (5th arrondissement) also has shops at 18 rue Montorgueil (1st arrondissement) and 38 rue Godot-de-Mauroy (9th arrondissement). Boxes of 6 to 18 choux, platters of 35 or 70, and an events service.
3. Fou de Pâtisserie, for chefs' creations
At 45 rue Montorgueil (2nd arrondissement), the shop created by the team behind the magazine of the same name sells pastries by well-known chefs, including Pierre Hermé, Cyril Lignac and Pierre Marcolini, with a selection that changes with the seasons. A second shop is on rue des Martyrs (9th arrondissement).
4. Chez Janou, for chocolate mousse
This restaurant at 2 rue Roger-Verlomme (3rd arrondissement) is known for its unlimited chocolate mousse, served by the ladle. An address for a team lunch rather than a delivered afternoon break.
How do you recognise a good afternoon-break pastry?
- It holds without cutlery. Tartlets, choux and brownies are eaten by hand; mousse and panna cotta arrive in a pot with a spoon.
- It travels well. A shortcrust base and a well-set cream arrive intact; a delicate whipped cream, less so.
- It is not too sweet. At 4 pm, a touch of acidity (lemon, red berries) goes down better than a very rich layered dessert.
- There is a choice. Mix two or three pastries: one fruity, one chocolate, one praline.
- The allergens are known. Praline contains nuts: plan an alternative.
How many should you order, and what budget for 10, 20 or 50 people?
Calculation: 1 individual pastry per person, in boxes of 6, and 1 one-litre flask of coffee or tea for 6 people (€19.50 excl. VAT), delivery €29 excl. VAT.
| Headcount | Pastries | Drinks | Total delivered, excl. VAT |
|---|---|---|---|
| 10 people | 1 box of lemon tartlets + 1 of mousses: 19.90 + 18.90 = €38.80 | 2 flasks: €39 | 38.80 + 39 + 29 = €106.80 |
| 20 people | 2 boxes of lemon tartlets, 1 of praline, 1 of mousses: 59.70 + 18.90 = €78.60 | 4 flasks: €78 | 78.60 + 78 + 29 = €185.60 |
| 50 people | 3 boxes of lemon tartlets, 3 of praline, 3 of mousses: 59.70 + 59.70 + 56.70 = €176.10 | 9 flasks: €175.50 | 176.10 + 175.50 + 29 = €380.60 |
