The best yoghurts for an office breakfast in Paris: our selection
Ferme de Viltain, dairies that make their own products in Paris: where to find good yoghurts for an office breakfast, how to recognise them and how many to plan.
For an office breakfast in Paris, the best yoghurts come from dairies that make their yoghurts with their own milk or with milk from an identified farm. The Ferme de Viltain, in Jouy-en-Josas, processes the milk from its cows on site; in Paris, two dairy shops in the 18th arrondissement make their dairy products in their own shop. At L'Écrin Traiteur, we deliver Ferme de Viltain yoghurts in individual pots or, for an upmarket presentation, in reusable glass verrines, from 6:30 am.
Where to find the best yoghurts in Paris? Our selection
1. Farmhouse yoghurt from the Ferme de Viltain, our partner
Transparency: the Ferme de Viltain is our partner, so our opinion is not neutral. Its fruit yoghurts are made with milk from its own cows, in Jouy-en-Josas (Yvelines), 17 km from Paris. The family has welcomed the public to the farm since 1954 and pasteurises the milk from its herd on site to make yoghurts, fresh cheeses and fermented milks. This is the yoghurt we serve in our breakfasts: in an individual pot, it needs no serving spoon or bowl, and it suits those who prefer dairy to sweet things.
2. L'Écrin's homemade granola yoghurt
A creamy yoghurt topped with homemade granola: oat flakes, honey, almonds, hazelnuts. The crunch of the granola and the freshness of the yoghurt make this pot a complete part of the breakfast. Allergy warning: it contains milk and tree nuts. Our homemade granola recipe gives the method.
3. Laiterie de la Chapelle, in the 18th arrondissement
At 72 rue Philippe-de-Girard, Paul Zindy makes cheeses and dairy products in his shop with milk from a farm in Nesles-la-Vallée, in the Val-d'Oise. Le Fooding mentions plain or flavoured yoghurts, and a frozen yoghurt in summer.
4. La Laiterie de Paris, in La Goutte-d'Or
Opened in 2017 by Pierre Coulon at 74 rue des Poissonniers (18th arrondissement), this dairy shop processes cow's milk in the capital. Time Out tasted raspberry, wild blueberry and Menton lemon yoghurts there.
5. The Ferme de Viltain market, in Jouy-en-Josas
For those who want to see where the milk comes from: the farm market is open Monday to Sunday, and cowshed visits take place on Wednesdays (times on the farm's website).
How to recognise a good yoghurt?
| Criterion | What to look at |
|---|---|
| The word "yaourt" | In France, it is reserved for milks fermented by two bacteria only (Streptococcus thermophilus and Lactobacillus bulgaricus), alive in the finished product, at least 10 million per gram (decree of 30 December 1988). |
| The origin of the milk | A named farm, rather than "cow's milk" with no origin. |
| The ingredient list | Short: milk, cultures, fruit or sugar. No added thickener. |
| The texture | Firm or smooth depending on the style, with no water rising to the surface. |
| The format | For a meeting, the individual format avoids serving and waste. The reusable glass verrine looks more polished than the disposable pot. |
How many yoghurts to plan and what budget for 10, 20 or 50 people?
Yoghurts complement pastries; they do not replace them. The calculation below takes the high assumption: 1 pot per person. Our yoghurts are ordered in packs of 6: farmhouse yoghurt at €14.90 excl. VAT per pack, granola yoghurt at €16.90 excl. VAT per pack. Delivery costs €29 excl. VAT.
| People | Packs of 6 | Farmhouse yoghurt | Granola yoghurt |
|---|---|---|---|
| 10 | 2 (12 pots) | 2 × 14.90 = €29.80 + €29 = €58.80 excl. VAT | 2 × 16.90 = €33.80 + €29 = €62.80 excl. VAT |
| 20 | 4 (24 pots) | 4 × 14.90 = €59.60 + €29 = €88.60 excl. VAT | 4 × 16.90 = €67.60 + €29 = €96.60 excl. VAT |
| 50 | 9 (54 pots) | 9 × 14.90 = €134.10 + €29 = €163.10 excl. VAT | 9 × 16.90 = €152.10 + €29 = €181.10 excl. VAT |
The minimum order is €50 excl. VAT: for 10 people, the yoghurts are ordered with a pastry tray. For a full breakfast (pastries, juice, coffee, fruit), allow €12 to €16 per person excl. VAT, plus delivery: the details are in our breakfast budget guide.
