The best croissants and pains au chocolat in Paris for the office: the 2026 rankings
Boulangerie du Sentier, BOOM, Maison Thevenin, L'Épi du Roi: the award-winning croissants of 2026, how to recognise a good croissant and how many to order for a meeting.
The best croissants in Paris in 2026, according to the official competitions, are those of the Boulangerie du Sentier (2nd arrondissement), winner of the Greater Paris competition, and of L'Épi du Roi in Versailles, best butter croissant in France. For a meeting or an office breakfast, the simplest option is still to have mini butter pastries baked that same morning delivered: that is what L'Écrin Traiteur does, from 6:30 am, in Paris and Île-de-France.

Our selection for the office
1. L'Écrin Traiteur's butter pastries
Transparency: this is our product. Our croissants and pains au chocolat come from artisan bakers, made with Charentes-Poitou butter, and are baked that same morning. We refuse industrial or frozen pastries. The mini format (croissants, pains au chocolat, pains aux raisins) is eaten in one or two bites, standing, without a plate: it is the right format for a meeting. We deliver from 6:30 am, at the time requested.
2. Boulangerie du Sentier, best croissant in Greater Paris 2026
On 12 May 2026, during the Fête du pain on the square in front of Notre-Dame, the jury of the Boulangers du Grand Paris trade association ranked the croissant of the Boulangerie du Sentier, 47 rue du Caire, first. It was the 25th edition of the competition, reserved for croissants made with AOP Charentes-Poitou butter.
3. BOOM Boulangerie Omnivore, in Neuilly-sur-Seine
Silver medal in the same 2026 competition, at 215 boulevard Bineau. A useful address for offices in Neuilly and west Paris.
4. Maison Thevenin, rue de Buci
Bronze medal in the 2026 Greater Paris competition, at 6 rue de Buci, in the 6th arrondissement.
5. L'Épi du Roi, in Versailles, best croissant in France 2026
On 2 and 3 June 2026, Dylan Delmaire won the gold medal at the 7th national best butter croissant competition, organised by the Confédération nationale de la boulangerie-pâtisserie française. He had already won the Île-de-France "grande couronne" (outer suburbs) regional competition the same year.
The 2025 Greater Paris winner, La Parisienne, is in the 10th arrondissement.
How to recognise a good croissant?
The competition juries' criteria are a good guide. At the 2026 national competition, candidates had 5 hours to produce 30 croissants of 60 g after baking (55 to 65 g allowed), marked on baking, lamination, shape, consistency, taste, crumb and smell.
| Criterion | Good sign | Bad sign |
|---|---|---|
| The butter | "Pur beurre" (all butter) stated, smell of butter when the box is opened | Neutral taste, greasy film on the fingers |
| The lamination | Distinct layers, honeycomb crumb when cut | Dense crumb, looks like brioche bread |
| The baking | Deep golden, crisp and flaky | Pale, soft |
| The freshness | Baked that same morning | Baked the day before and reheated |
| The pain au chocolat | Two well-spaced chocolate bars | A single off-centre bar |
