Mariage Frères, Dammann Frères, Palais des Thés, Terres de Café, Coutume: the tea houses and coffee roasters of Paris, how to recognise good meeting coffee, and how many flasks to order.
For a meeting or an office breakfast in Paris, serve tea from a great Parisian tea house, such as Mariage Frères, and coffee roasted by an artisan, delivered hot in flasks. Allow 1 one-litre flask for 6 people, with 4 flasks of coffee for 1 of tea. At L'Écrin Traiteur, each flask costs €19.50 excl. VAT.
Our selection: the tea houses and coffee roasters of Paris
1. Mariage Frères, the tea we serve
The house was founded in Paris on 1 June 1854. Its historic address is 30 rue du Bourg-Tibourg, in the Marais. It is the tea in our flasks at L'Écrin Traiteur: it sits next to the coffee so the whole team has a choice.
2. Dammann Frères, place des Vosges
The house describes itself as a "tea specialist since 1825". Its shop at number 15 place des Vosges (4th arrondissement) is one of its Paris addresses, along with Victoria, Mouffetard, Bercy Village and Petits Pères. It has a corporate gifts service.
3. Palais des Thés
The Parisian house is celebrating its 40th anniversary with a dedicated collection, according to its website. It has an area for business customers and a corporate gifts offer.
4. Terres de Café
Founded in 2009 by Christophe Servell, this roaster has shops in Paris, Lille and Versailles, and an offer for companies and cafés-restaurants, with coffee presented as traceable from bean to cup.
5. Coutume
Coutume roasts its coffees in its workshops in Romainville, on the edge of Paris, and has its own coffee shops. The house has a range of solutions for businesses.
How do you recognise good meeting tea and coffee?
- The coffee is made the same morning. Coffee made the day before and reheated gives itself away at the first sip.
- The roaster is named. An artisan coffee, rounded and not very bitter, pleases espresso lovers as well as those who take it light.
- The tea comes from a well-known house. A name like Mariage Frères reassures tea lovers, who are often the most demanding.
- The flask holds the heat. Ours keeps the coffee hot 4 to 5 hours after delivery: the team helps itself all morning.
- There is a caffeine-free option. A cold infusion such as lime and ginger means nobody has to settle for a glass of water.
How many flasks to order, and what budget?
The rule we apply to every quote: 1 one-litre flask for 6 people (6 to 8 cups), rounded up to the next flask, with 4 flasks of coffee for 1 of tea. L'Écrin prices: €19.50 excl. VAT per flask, delivery €29 excl. VAT.
| Headcount | Flasks | Calculation | Total delivered, excl. VAT |
|---|---|---|---|
| 10 people | 2 (1 coffee, 1 tea) | 2 × 19.50 = €39, below the €50 minimum: + 1 box of 10 madeleines (€24.90) = €63.90 + €29 | €92.90 |
| 20 people | 4 (3 coffee, 1 tea) | 4 × 19.50 = €78 + €29 | €107 |
| 50 people | 9 (7 coffee, 2 tea) | 9 × 19.50 = €175.50 + €29 | €204.50 |
