Office breakfast: how to plan it well
The team breakfast is one of the most unifying rituals, and one of the easiest to get wrong. Quantities, products, timing: the method.
There are two ways to serve your teams breakfast. The first: a packet of vending-machine biscuits left on the corner of a table. The second: butter pastries still warm, a pressed juice, coffee that actually tastes of something. The budget differs by a few euros per person; the impression left is in a different league. Here is how to get the second one right, without spending your morning on it.
Why the office breakfast really matters
Kick-off meeting, September return, onboarding new hires, Monday CODIR (management committee): the team breakfast creates an atmosphere that no other format produces so naturally. Informal and friendly, it sends a simple signal: we thought of you. That signal is especially strong for new hires, who build their image of the company in their first weeks, and for senior staff, who have the references to judge the effort made.
The quantities to plan
Allow 2 mini pastries per person (3 for a group of 10 people or fewer), one mignardise, one hot drink and one glass of juice per person. These are the guidelines we apply to every quote.
| Headcount | Mini pastries | Madeleines / loaf cakes | Coffee + tea thermoses (1 L) | Juice (1 L) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 10 people | 30 | 10 madeleines | 2 + 0 | 2 |
| 20 people | 60 | 20 madeleines | 3 + 1 | 4 |
| 30 people | 60 | 30 madeleines + 1 loaf cake | 4 + 1 | 6 |
| 50 people | 120 | 40 madeleines + 2 loaf cakes | 7 + 2 | 10 |
A one-litre thermos serves 6 people, and a litre of juice fills 5 glasses. Quantities vary with the time: a breakfast at 8 am is eaten more than one at 9:30 am, when part of the team has already eaten. From 16 people, add one fruit skewer per guest.
What budget should you plan?
From €8 per person excl. VAT for a simple package (pastries, juice, coffee, fruit), and from €12 to €16 per person excl. VAT, plus €29 excl. VAT for delivery, for a full breakfast with mignardises, tea and fruit skewers. For 20 people, a full breakfast comes to €311.80 excl. VAT, or €340.80 excl. VAT with delivery. The breakdown from 10 to 100 people is in our breakfast budget guide, and our packages are on the office breakfasts page.
The products that make the difference
Pastries from an artisan baker, pressed juices (not made from concentrate), tea from a renowned house, specialty coffee. An employee immediately tells a real butter croissant from an industrial margarine one, even without being able to explain why. This level of detail is what separates a well-cared-for moment from a simple logistical formality.
For a more generous breakfast, add fine pastries (madeleines, financiers) and a basket of fresh seasonal fruit, which balances the sweet side and suits everyone, including those who do not eat pastries.
The perfect timing
The ideal slot is between 8:30 am and 9:30 am: late enough for everyone to have arrived, early enough not to eat into the working morning. Allow 30 to 45 minutes. Serve breakfast 15 to 20 minutes before a meeting starts: the time it takes for blood sugar to stabilise is also the time for the informal conversations that give the moment its value. On the ordering side, the rule is simple: before 2 pm the day before for delivery the next day from 6:30 am.
A real example: the meeting breakfast at Bain & Company
The Bain & Company teams in Paris order meeting breakfasts for 8 to 40 people, several times a month. We delivered 38 of them between February and October 2026, usually at 7:45 am, sometimes from 6:30 am: pastries, madeleines, homemade loaf cakes, fruit skewers, coffee and Alain Milliat juice. The rest of their orders, afternoon breaks and seminar lunches, is detailed in our client case studies.
Thinking beyond the morning
Breakfast is only one of the food rituals that set the rhythm of the week. A 4 pm afternoon break, a lunch tray for a training day, an aperitif platter for after-work drinks: the same principles, artisan quality, the right quantities, controlled timing, apply. Working with a caterer able to cover all these moments guarantees consistency from one event to the next, with a single point of contact.
What to avoid
- Recognisable industrial products, which cancel out all the effort.
- Quantities that are too tight: a slight surplus is better than running short.
- Leaving products at room temperature for more than two hours after delivery.
- Forgetting an option for specific diets (gluten-free, vegan): it is planned when ordering, not on the day.
A well-cared-for team breakfast takes five minutes to organise when you rely on the right partner. Request your quote from L'Écrin Traiteur: reply within 24 hours, delivery in Paris and Île-de-France from 6:30 am.

Frequently asked questions
How many pastries per person should you plan for an office breakfast?
Allow 2 mini pastries per person, 3 for a group of 10 people or fewer. For 10 people: 30 mini pastries, 10 madeleines, 2 one-litre thermoses of coffee and 1 litre of juice. For 20 people: 60 mini pastries, 20 madeleines, 4 thermoses and 2 litres of juice. Quantities are higher for an early breakfast (8 am) than a late one (9:30 am).
What budget for an office breakfast?
From €8 per person excl. VAT for a simple package, and from €12 to €16 per person excl. VAT, plus €29 excl. VAT for delivery, for a full breakfast. For 20 people, a full breakfast comes to €311.80 excl. VAT, or €340.80 excl. VAT with delivery, at L'Écrin Traiteur.
What time should you serve a team breakfast?
The ideal slot is 8:30 am to 9:30 am. Serve it 15 to 20 minutes before a meeting to leave time for informal conversation and for blood sugar to stabilise. Order before 2 pm the day before for delivery the next day from 6:30 am.
How do you handle dietary requirements at an office breakfast?
Plan at least one gluten-free option and one vegan option (a fruit basket, for example). These alternatives are flagged when ordering, never on the day of delivery. A specialist caterer includes these requests as standard and provides the allergen list on request.
